Lecithin is a complex mixture of natural chemical compounds called "phospholipids" which consist of fatty acids and a phosphate group linked to choline and inositol. Lecithin occurs naturally in all human, animal and vegetable cells. The most abundant source of lecithin in plant life is the soya bean. In humans, where the highest concentrations are found in the brain, liver, kidneys and bone marrow, lecithin circulates in the blood keeping other fatty substances - including cholesterol - in suspension. Lecithin is rich in phosphatidyl choline, a nutrient which plays an important role in the breakdown of fat in the liver and the emulsification of fat in food. Many of the foods we eat have been refined thus destroying their valuable lecithin content, diets which are rich in refined foods may not contain sufficient lecithin. Many men and women, particularly those on low fat, low cholesterol diets like to supplement the body's own supply of lecithin. Lecigran can be sprinkled onto all kinds of foods without affecting the taste or it can be taken directly from the spoon if preferred. Lecigran is a highly concentrated form of lecithin - one teaspoonful contains as much lecithin as eighteen 270mg capsules.
